Ugh. House Rules. We get it. We want your experience at the Scotch Creek Chalet to be the best family vacation you’ve had in a long time. This list of do’s and don’ts will help make that happen.
It’s a long page so feel free to use “CTRL+F” to search for tips on temperature control in the house, hot tub operation, and information on the septic system to avoid damages.

Welcome to The Scotch Creek Chalet! We are the proud owners of this beautiful property and it has been a labour of love. We poured a lot of TLC into it and hope you enjoy all of the enhanced amenities we've added.
HOME DETAILS
1039 Scotch Creek Wharf Road, Scotch Creek, BC V0E 1M5
Check in time is 4pm.
Early check-in’s are difficult to accommodate.
ARRIVAL AND PARKING
The house is on the right side of the road. You’ll see our address sign attached to a tree as you approach the property.
There are two driveways that are side by side; please assure that you enter the driveway that does NOT have reflectors.
There is ample parking in front of the property. Please pull up close to the fence, on a diagonal, to assure all vehicles will fit.
ACCESS AND DOORS
The front door code will be sent to you directly prior to your booking.
Please lock all doors when the chalet is empty for security and safety purposes.
There is a security camera at the front door facing the driveway, front door, and porch area. This will be on during your stay.
TEMPERATURE CONTROL
There is air conditioning in the chalet.
The main thermostat is in the living area, directly to the right of the kitchen. The temperature of the first floor bedroom (Bourbon) and second floor ensuite bedroom (Champagne Suite) is controlled by this thermostat.
There are heat pump units in the other areas of the house, for both cooling and heating. Directions are located on the units for easy operation.
In summer, it’s good practice to keep drapes and blinds closed on the sunny side of the house to help with radiant heat. In winter, closing the blinds on the main floor at night helps keep the heat in.
There are foam inserts for the angled windows on the upper floors.
There are ceiling fans in all bedrooms for additional comfort.
WINDOWS
All windows that open have screens.
The sliders and doors do not have screens, so please be mindful of bugs and keep the doors closed as much as possible.
The blinds operate by pushing up or pulling down on the plastic part, there are no strings.
LINEN
All beds will be fully appointed with sheets, duvet, and pillows.
Additional blankets are located around the chalet if needed. There are a few extra pillows in the chalet as well.
Two towels per person, plus washcloths and hand towels will be provided in each bedroom. Hand towels and bath mats are in the bathrooms.
APPLIANCES
There is a large washer and dryer with limited detergent that is available for you.
Iron and ironing board is in the laundry room.
Vacuum and broom are in the hallway closet.
Dishwasher works best with pods provided.
There is a 2nd full size fridge in the laundry room near the back patio door.
There are two large BBQ is located on the back patio. BBQ utensils are in the kitchen. There will be a partial tank and full tank available for you to use during your stay. If more propane is needed, it is easily refilled at the gas station in town.
SEPTIC SYSTEM AND COMPOST
The chalet is on a septic system, so PLEASE do not put food scraps (i.e., coffee grounds) down the drain. Only toilet paper should be flushed down the toilets.
The town of Scotch Creek DOES NOT compost, so all food scraps go into the trash.
GARBAGE AND RECYCLING
Garbage cans are in the kitchen, bathrooms and on the second floor.
If you need to empty during your stay, there are extra bags under the sink.
There is a garbage box with large garbage cans by the fence. Please put all full garbage bags in this can and cover with the lid.
Recycling and returnable container bins are in the kitchen. There are larger cans on the patio accessible through the dining room sliding patio door. There is also a receptacle by the firepit area in the backyard. If you can separate the recycling by recycling and returnables (liquor bottles, cans, milk cartons etc.) that would be extremely helpful as they go to different places. Bins should be labelled to support this.
TV, INTERNET

Turn on the TV and speaker with the RCA remote.
SmartTV is Netflix enabled.
HOT TUB
Use of the hot tub is exclusively for guests of 1039 Scotch Creek Wharf Road.
No glass or food allowed in the hot tub. Use only plastic glasses that can be found in the kitchen.
Hot tub is serviced once weekly on Thursday. As this is a remote location, additional or emergency services are not available on other days. If it’s determined the hot tub has to be adjusted chemically, or emptied, it will be done on Thursday during your stay.

FIRE PIT AND BACKYARD
There is a reasonable amount of firewood and kindling for you to use. If more is needed, it can easily be purchased a few doors away.
Fire cannot extend past the edges of the fire pit and no taller than half a meter.
Please use the hose to drench (cool to the touch) the fire when finished. The hose is attached to a tree within 2 meters of the fire.
We will leave a notification at the house and on the fire pit should there be a fire ban.
Overhead lights can be plugged in by the stairs to the back door. Please make sure the lights are off each night before heading to bed.
QUIET HOURS
The chalet is in a lovely small neighbourhood, and we value the privacy and comfort of our neighbours.
On all nights, after 8pm, please keep outdoor conversation at a normal level with quiet music.
On weeknights, please bring conversations inside by 10pm, assuring all lights are off and fires are doused.
On weekends and stat holidays, the time is extended to midnight.
Inside the chalet, enjoy yourselves as late as you’d like if noise does not disturb the neighbours.
CHECK OUT
Check out time is 10:00AM. Late check-outs are difficult to accommodate.
Leave all dirty and used towels and linens in the main floor laundry room.
Turn off all the lights.
Close all windows.
Please ensure no alarms are set to go off.
Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start dishwasher on “half load” setting.
Turn thermostat back to 68.
Assure both fridges are empty.
EXCESSIVE DIRTINESS, DAMAGE, OR SMOKING
Professional cleaners are paid to clean the unit. Cleaning takes six hours. If the house is left excessively dirty, additional cleaning fees will be charged against your damage deposit.
Absolutely NO SMOKING is allowed in or on any deck of the chalet. Smoking is permitted in the driveway, and proper disposal of all butts is required. If smoking occurs in the chalet, you will be charged for excessive dirtiness which will include the cleaning of all linens, draperies, upholstery, and carpeting.

Feel free to use the refillable growlers (brown jugs) found in the armoire in the dining room and refill with your brew of choice at Crannog Ales in Sorrento. When finished, please leave the growlers for the next guests.
